Job Description
|
The Shop Assistant plays a key role in supporting Our Social Fabric’s retail and e-commerce operations. This position assists in creating an engaging shopping experience for customers, ensuring smooth sales processes, and contributing to the organization’s mission of sustainability and waste reduction.
Core hours are Sunday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Tuesday: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Thursday: 1:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Skills and Competencies
|

Experience in retail operations, including POS systems and customer service

Familiarity with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify (or similar)

Strong communication skills, both written and oral

Knowledge of and experience with textiles (burn testing ability is an asset)

Interest in sustainability and waste reduction

Self-motivated with strong attention to detail

Ability to work independently and proactively identify tasks that need to be completed

Experience with task management tools like Trello (or similar)

Strong organizational skills and a team-oriented mindset

Ability to lift and handle fabric bolts or bins and assist with workspace cleanup

A positive and collaborative attitude with the ability to inspire volunteers

Burn testing experience is an asset

Job Duties and Responsibilities
|

Retail Sales Support
-
Assist the Retail Manager with rolling, pricing, and displaying fabric and notions.

Set up signage before sales events and assist customers on the shop floor and at the cash desk.

E-Commerce Support
-
Fulfill online orders, including pickup, shipping, and cubby service.

Prepare fabric for sale, including SKU creation
-
Upload product listings with accurate descriptions and photos.

Help customers at the pickup window and assist with promotional photography as needed.

Workspace Maintenance

Other Responsibilities
Reports to: General Manager Takes direction from: Retail Manager and E-Commerce Manager

Working Conditions

Work takes place in a combination of retail and warehouse environments.

Regular physical activity, including lifting and carrying fabric bolts or bins.

Schedule includes weekend (Sunday) and evening shifts (Thursday). Flexibility may be required to meet operational needs.

Salary and Benefits

$19 per hour up to 20 hours per week

Hiring Process
|
