Sew Fun(d) Scholarship

Sew Fun(d) scholarship program

Our Social Fabric is passionate about nurturing and inspiring the fibre arts community and encouraging the next generation of sewists. For this reason, we are pleased to present our Sew Fun(d) scholarship program - a scholarship to take the fun home.

Our scholarship is for high school students and gives young designers an opportunity to get their hands on a brand new Janome 2030QDC sewing machine (worth $929) to take the fun home.

Through this program we will be awarding ten students in the Vancouver Lower Mainland area a brand new sewing machine, allowing them to take their creativity and love of fibre arts to the next level. We have awarded four sewing machines so far, with six more to give away in 2023.

First of ten sewing machines awards

The first of ten brand-new Janome 2030QDC sewing machines was awarded in January 2023.

Watch the feature on Sew Fun(d) on CTV News Vancouver:

Do you know an aspiring designer who deserves a new sewing machine? Are they creative and skilled with their projects and always looking for extra class time to make their creations come to fruition? The Sew Fun(d) scholarship is for them!

Who is eligible to receive a free sewing machine?

Recipients of free sewing machines must be students enrolled in a secondary school located in the Lower Mainland, BC. This includes schools in Bowen island, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, West Vancouver and White Rock.

Who can I apply?

Students can nominate themselves or a peer, or teachers can nominate a student.

You will be asked to provide information on why the applicant is deserving of a sewing machine, the student’s academic background, as well as a current or past project. Students don’t necessarily have to be in a sewing program, but must be passionate about sewing and the fibre arts.

Applicants are welcome to reapply through successive application windows if unsuccessful the first time around.
