Job Description


The Retail Manager plays a key role in driving sales and promoting Our Social Fabric’s mission through effective retail management. This role ensures the store is stocked with appropriate items, manages sales events, and leads a team of volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service. The Retail Manager collaborates closely with the General Manager, Ecommerce Manager and Marketing Manager to implement marketing strategies and contribute to the organization’s overall goals. 


Core hours are Sunday 9:00 AM–2:00 PM, Tuesday 9:30 AM–6:00 PM, Wednesday 9:30 AM–6:00 PM, and Thursday 9:30 AM–7:00 PM.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership experience in a retail environment

  • Proficient in managing teams, including employees and volunteers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with POS systems and customer service

  • Knowledge and interest in textiles, sustainability, and community involvement

  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail

  • Familiarity with task management tools like Trello

  • Physically able to lift fabric bolts or bins and assist with shop cleanup

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to foster a positive, team-oriented environment

  • Proactive and independent with the ability to identify and solve problems

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Retail Operations and Sales

    • Ensure store shelves are stocked with high-demand items to drive sales.

    • Manage all aspects of retail sales events, including pricing, promotions, merchandising, and volunteer staffing.

    • Deliver outstanding customer service during all sales events, maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment.

  2. Collaboration and Planning

    • Collaborate with the General Manager to plan retail sale dates, volunteer requirements, and operational improvements.

    • Work closely with the Marketing Manager to develop and implement marketing strategies to promote products and increase sales.

  3. Community Engagement

    • Assist the Marketing Manager in fulfilling community requests, including merchandise sales, rentals, and in-kind donations.

  4. Volunteer Leadership

    • Assign tasks to volunteers, provide feedback, and foster a supportive and collaborative team environment.

  5. Operations and Reporting

    • Maintain a tidy, hazard-free workspace.

    • Contribute to monthly revenue and activity reports.

    • Participate in receiving and sorting donated textiles as needed.

  6. Other Responsibilities

    • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the General Manager.

Supervises: Volunteers

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily takes place in a retail store environment.

  • Regular physical activity is required, including standing, lifting, and carrying fabric bolts or bins.

  • Core schedule includes weekend (Sunday) and evening shifts (Thursday). Flexibility is required to accommodate additional business needs.


Salary and Benefits

  • $23 per hour up to 30 hours per week

Hiring Process

The application deadline for this position is Friday, February 28, 2025, but we will begin reviewing applications as they are received and will conduct interviews with suitable candidates on a rolling basis. The position will remain open until we find the right candidate. Interviews will take place in person at our shop, and the start date is Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
