Volunteer Opportunity: Online Store Photography Assistant

Help us keep fabric out of landfill by making donated materials available to our community.

Our Social Fabric is looking for a reliable volunteer to assist with photographing products for our online store. Every metre of fabric, notion, and sewing supply that we divert from landfill needs to be processed and listed so it can find a new home. By helping us create accurate, attractive product listings, you'll play an important role in making these materials accessible to sewists, crafters, students, and community organizations.

What You'll Do

As an Online Store Photography Assistant, you will:

  • Take clear, colour-accurate photos of fabric and sewing-related products using your own smartphone.
  • Upload photos directly to Shopify, our ecommerce platform.
  • Help ensure products are presented consistently and accurately online.
  • Work alongside our team to support the flow of new inventory into our online store.

Skills and Requirements

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has their own smartphone capable of taking high-quality photos with accurate colour representation.
  • Is comfortable using technology and uploading images to Shopify (or is willing to learn).
  • Has good attention to detail.
  • Can work independently after training.
  • Is able to commit to volunteering on a regular basis.

Volunteer Schedule

Available shifts are:

  • Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Thursday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

We are hoping to find volunteers who can attend regularly during these times. However, if you are unable to commit to a full four-hour shift, we are happy to discuss alternative arrangements. There is some flexibility with hours for the right volunteer.

Why Volunteer With Us?

Every year, thousands of kilograms of fabric and sewing supplies are diverted from landfill through Our Social Fabric. The faster we can process and list donated materials, the sooner they can be reused by our community instead of becoming waste.

By volunteering in this role, you'll directly support our mission of reducing textile waste while helping generate revenue that funds community sewing programs, sewing machine scholarships, and other initiatives that increase access to sewing.

In addition, regular volunteers are eligible for a fabric allowance after successfully completing their probationary period - a small thank-you for the valuable contribution they make to our work.

If you enjoy photography, have an eye for detail, and want to support textile reuse in your community, we'd love to hear from you.
