Sewing Workshops

Upcoming Sewing Workshops in September and October, 2019
All workshops take place at Our Social Fabric, 1275 Venables in Vancouver.

1. Pattern Drafting & Sewing from Ready to Wear

Have you ever wanted to re-create a favourite top, leggings or skirt? Bring your garment and our instructor will guide you through the steps to DRAFT a pattern and SEW a simple garment.

Date: Saturday, September 14 and 21, 9:30am – 1:00pm

  • Instructor: Denise Jones Chu, Hello Beautiful
  • Skills: General sewing knowledge and experience using domestic sewing machines
  • Equipment/Supplies: Bring your own basic sewing kit (fabric and paper scissors, seam ripper, measuring tape, ruler, pencil, eraser, fabric chalk, straight pins, masking tape or invisible tape)
  • Domestic sewing machines are available for use in the OSF Shop.
    Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machine to the class, if they prefer.
  • Students will create a pattern from a ready-to-wear garment of their choosing and then use the pattern to cut out and sew a garment. Students may wish to bring a few garments to review with the instructor. Pattern paper provided by OSF.
  • Cost: $110—2 sessions, 3.5 hrs each. Class size is limited to 10 students.

2. Sew What…

Are you stuck between a placket and an invisible zipper? Are your pattern instructions confusing? Do you have a project that’s half finished and you need a little guidance? Not sure if you need to interface or having trouble insetting a zipper? This four hour sewing session will help you gain confidence and give you the tools to complete your project.

Date: Saturday, October 19, 9:30-1:00 pm

  • Instructor: Denise Jones Chu, Hello Beautiful
  • Skills: Student will have some general sewing experience.
  • Equipment/Supplies: Bring your own basic sewing kit (fabric scissors, seam ripper, measuring tape, ruler, pencil, eraser, fabric chalk, straight pins, masking tape or invisible tape)
  • Bring the project that you need help with including the pattern, fabric and any notions as noted on your pattern package
  • If you wish, bring a second, smaller project which can be also worked on, if time permits.
  • Cost: $55—one session, 3.5 hours. Class size is limited to 10 students.
