Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, time to get sewing for Halloween and Christmas! Join us this Sunday, October 16th from 10am to 1pm for awesome deals on fabric and notions. Here’s what we have in the shop this month:
We still have a good selection of Halloween inspired deals, lots of black knit and woven fabric for Dracula capes and witches gowns, orange wool for the Giant Pumpkin, fake fur for the animal in your family, black lace and trim, and fancies for those little princesses.
Bundles of Polarteck fleece for those winter hikes in the forest, regular and heavy fleece for shawls and crafts, water repellent fabrics for jackets and packs, and hoodie-type and sweatshirt fleece.
Our drapery and upholstery donation finally arrived and happy to say that we have lots of bolts of drapery fabrics (all for $3/m) and upholstery fabrics – all really high-end beautiful fabrics. With the holiday season not too far away, you’ll find lots of remnants just the right size for making new cushion covers and re-upholstering that faded
There’s still a good supply of t-shirt and legging knits, notions, wovens in a variety of weights and colours and wool / wool blends.
Hope to see you on Sunday, October 16th!

Carol Smith and her costume crew used materials from Our Social Fabric to create over 100 costumes for the Highlands United Church performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
The show ran at the North Vancouver church for five sold-out nights in March. Carol Smith and her crew designed and sewed over 100 outfits, mostly original designs using fabric, leather, thread, notions and textile remnants from Our Social Fabric.
Carol explains, “Two bolts of drapery fabric and sheers made the most lovely floor-length white robes and wings for 20 angels. Most chorus members were given hand-made one-of-a-kind shoulder bags made of canvas with textile, leather, wood and stone embellishments. The bases for the high priest hats were made from yoga mats covered in satin and secured with Velcro. Leper costumes were made from natural fibre fabrics purchased two years ago, ripped, torn, dyed and distressed for an aged and worn look.”
“We are extremely grateful for the work of Our Social Fabric and their efforts to recycle textiles and keep fabrics out of landfills.”
We love to see how the community is using OSF fabrics, no matter what size the project is. If you’ve created something that you’d like to share, email firstname.lastname@example.org or share it on our Facebook page!
We’re doing this survey to check in with everyone who’s shared their time with us, and those who haven’t found a moment yet! Your feedback will help improve the OSF volunteer experience, and help us understand what future volunteer opportunities we should offer :)
The survey will be open until Friday March 8, 2013 at noon. I’ll do the draw after the survey closes and announce it in an upcoming OSF email (join our mailing list if you haven’t already!). If you’re the winner, just come to any upcoming sale, fill up a bag with fabric of your choice, and we’ll give it to you for free!
If you’ve got a few free minutes this week, please do take our customer survey! You’ll help improve our sales events, and you could win a FREE bag of fabric!
We’ll be running the survey all week, so you can fill it out any time before Friday August 17, 2012 at 9pm. We’ll do the draw after the survey closes and announce the winner via email and our social media channels. If you’re the winner, just come to any upcoming sale, fill up a bag with fabric of your choice, and we’ll give it to you for free!
And even if you haven’t been to a sale yet, you can still take the survey. We’re dying to know about all of the people we reach and what you think of our sales, so we can do a better job in the future!
Check out this amazing fabric collage made for the Highlands United Church in North Vancouver. Carol, one of our wonderful volunteers, created this piece with fabric from Our Social Fabric. Inspiring stuff!
Our next sale will be on July 7th from 11-3. We are still looking for a couple of volunteers to help out between the hours of 10-1 and 1-4. Volunteers help out by organizing fabric and keeping the space tidy as well as helping customers. In return for your invaluable assistance, you are welcome to take home a medium sized bag of fabric. Let us know if you are interested and available at email@example.com.
