OSF Sale – Sunday, Jan 26, 10am-1pm

Hello everyone,

Our Social Fabric is ready to open its doors for another Sale Event this Sunday, January 26th from 10am to 1:00 pm. Never mind the rain, come inside and fondle fabric with us!

COTTON HOODIE FLEECE
We still have a healthy stock of Cotton Hoodie Fleece so, if you missed the last sale, come and see the wide assortment of weights, weaves and colours that we have in store for you. This all natural soft fleece is perfect for hoodies, lap blankets, cozy coats and cushions and the coordinating t-shirt jersey knits are super made into tops for the whole family. Colours are all coordinated so you can make hoodies with rib knit cuffs and bottom bands. Our Hoodie Workshop started this week and everyone was having fun making their own patterns and sewing up hoodies with Tanja, our new instructor. We’ll be offering another Hoodie Workshop in April, if you’d like to be added to the wait list, please send an e-mail to oursocialfabric@gmail.com.

WHITE COTTON JERSEY T-SHIRT KNIT
Cotton knits are so wonderful to wear next to your skin but some folks do like a bit of colour! So we experimented with dying this lovely fabric and it dyes really well – you can do a mottled effect by scrunching the fabric or create soft ombres with a gradual dipping technique. See what you can create with our Ozycraft dyes and 100% cotton jersey knit. Maybe get a head start on a few summer t-shirts or shorts.

QUILTING COTTONS AND MUSLIN
Lots more quilting cottons and muslin in stock (squares, strips and remnants) for all your crafting and sewing projects

CANVAS STRIPS
We received an interesting donation of charcoal coloured, water repellent canvas strips measuring 4.5 meters long by 24 cm wide. These strips are water repellent and would make great sturdy tote bags and tent pole bags (priced to sell!) Looking forward to seeing all of you this Sunday at Our Social Fabric – Vancouver’s only non-profit textile recycling initiative.

Thank You!

Hello everyone,
From all of us here at Our Social Fabric, we just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for your visits during the Eastside Culture Crawl, for all your “likes” on our Facebook and Instagram posts and for just being awesome and so supportive of OSF. It was all hands on deck for the past 4 days and although we put in lots of volunteer hours cutting, rolling and getting the place all sparkly for you, we had lots of fun greeting so many new faces and catching up with lots of our long-time customers. We also feel very blessed to have received two major donations this month which enabled us to have all those amazing quilting cottons, wool and hand-woven designer naturals. And you thanked us buy scooping them up! We hope you will be modelling your new outfits at the next sale!

We also had a great time offering some new workshops. Denise led two workshops and participants made lovely cross-body bags and learned some new artsy techniques for making a slashed  “chenille” effect.

And then on Sunday, the lovely gals from the Vancouver Quilters Guild joined us for an Intro to Quilting where attendees pieced and quilted stunning potholders. Our last sale of the year will be Thursday, December 5th from 2-8pm. If you missed those Christmas quilting cottons, come and grab a few bundles before they go into storage. We’ll send out a Sale Announcement closer to the sale date to let you know what’s new in the shop and upcoming Sale Events for the New Year.

Workshops

This Sunday November 24th, if you are at loose ends, and you’d like to help us make more Zero Bags for the shop, join us between 10am and 2pm for an OSF Sewing Bee and some stitching fun. You’ll help us make our Zero Bags and learn production-style techniques for assembling the bags. Click HERE to register on-line so we know how many folks are coming.

Our Friends at the Vancouver Quilters Guild had such a good time during the quilted potholder workshop, they are offering another workshop where you will learn more about piecing, quilting and binding to create a Baby Quilt. Janet and Alison are great teachers and create a supportive environment where learning is fun and creative. Visit our Workshops page to learn more or go directly to the on-line registration form. We have 4 people signed up so, there’s room for 4 more.

Thanks again everyone, see you on December 5th – our last Sale Event of the year!

We are Vancouver’s ONLY NON-PROFIT textile recycling initiative. We are 100% volunteer run and we are dedicated to keeping textiles out of the landfill and into the hands of creatives – just like you! Thank you for your continued support for more than 10 years!
