Our next Sale Event is happening this weekend on Sunday, February 23rd from 10am to 1:00 pm. Lots of new fabrics in the shop and we’ve done some some re-decorating – all for you! Our goal is to keep textiles out of the landfill but we also want to make sure that you have a good experience when you come to OSF. We’re always trying to improve the space, so we hope you will like our small improvements. Our Social Fabric is a non-profit textile recycling initiative in Vancouver, BC, and 100% volunteer run. Here’s what we have in store for you:
COTTON T-SHIRT KNIT
Lots of colours to choose from in a variety of weights and weaves. Time to get started on your summer wardrobe – these cotton and natural fiber knits are perfect for t-shirts, leggings, loose cardigans, turtle necks, light weight jackets, spring and summer shorts, skirts, tops and bottoms. You’ll find them on the center table.
NEW! BOOK AND MAGAZINE LIBRARY
We had so many wonderful books and magazines in the shop but they were crammed into a corner in the Notions Section – but we’ve invested in some shelving and delighted to show off our new Library – isn’t it beautiful. We’d like to thank our dedicated volunteer Sharon who spent many hours cataloging and sorting the books into Quilting, Sewing, Home Decor and Craft so, now your favourite books are much easier to find. we receive new books all the time and they’re priced to sell – take some home and share them with your friends when you’re done.
NEWLY DESIGNED HOME DECOR SECTION
Come and see our brand new Home Decor Section, tons of new fabrics to choose from, lots of space to move around and inspiration galore! Need to make some new cushions, a sturdy tote bag or recover a foot stool – we’ve got a lovely assortment of colours, patterns, textures to choose from.
Our quilting cottons section has been replenished so, lots of pretty colours and patterns to choose from.
WHAT’S COMING UP?
#1. Introduction to Quilting – Make a Baby Quilt, March 14 and 28. These two classes are led by Janet and Alison from the Vancouver Quilt Guild and you will be guided through the process of fabric selection, an overview of the quilt pattern, using rotary cutters and quilt rulers, piecing, joining the quilt layers together and edge binding. #2 Hoodie Workshop, March 26 and April 2. This workshop was such a success in January that we just had to repeat it! Who doesn’t need a cozy hoodie made from fabulous hoodie fabrics at OSF! This is a great two lesson course suitable for male and female students. The course is designed to teach you how to sew with knits while attaching a hood, sleeves, and pockets on knit fabrics. You will feel confident with the new techniques learned during this course and become a fearless knit expert. Click here to register for the Hoodie Workshop.
#3 Invisible Mending—Repair your Knits, Sunday, March 29. Learn how to mend your favorite knit garment in a way that is almost invisible. Using a weaving technique and ‘wooly nylon’ thread you can repair your moth holes and disintegrating seams on most knits. Bring a sweater or two to the workshop and we will take you through the steps of ‘invisible mending’ for sweaters, knit t-shirts and even nylon hosiery.
